Embryonic stem cell research appeals to scientists because those cells are the building blocks of life. They can be coaxed to growing into nerve cells, heart cells, lung cells, and other regenerative materials. But because there is no social, moral, or legal accord on the status of the embryo, tremendous controversy surrounds this area of research. Professor Andrews will analyze the controversy and applicable state and federal law. She will also address concerns about coercion, informed consent, and privacy in the use of embryo stem cells.
